Standing on the edge of the forest, staring northwards out across the deep snow covered
plains, Kyri shivered, the bitter cold wind sweeping down from the ice mountains was
turning her bare skin blue, she stepped back to the shelter of the dense scrubby forest
it was summer last time she had ventured this far up, with winter fast approaching the
creatures here were no longer the biggest threat, now she understood the strange Norsk
clothing, she would have to make her own.
A few hours of foraging gained her the materials she needed, with a fire going and meat
roasting she set to work, scraping and stitching, occasionly chewing, until happy not
even a wisp of cold could get through, she tried on her new garments, all that was
left showing were her eyes, she hated the bulk and the feeling of claustraphobia it gave
her but knew she would hate losing her fingers and toes more!.
With her new Norsk inspired suede armour ready she picked up her various weapons getting
a feel of using them with the new bulk, finding the new gloves clumsy she added straps
to her machette, blowpipe and knife, confident she would now not drop her weapons she
stoked the fire before settling down to rest.
The next morning she set off across the frozen wastes it wasn`t long before she found
an old abandoned camp, searching though what remained only gained her some pencils and
a small notebook with a leather cover, she opened it carefully, a few of the pages had
been torn out, on the first page some cheerful soul had written.
***Thank the Gods We are leaving, Flee this frozen hell while you still can!***
The rest of the pages were blank, she tucked her finds in her pouch and continued on
across the snow covered plains, in some places she sank up to her waist, in others she
could walk on the frozen crust, her clothing/armour was keeping out the cold and was
holding up well against the Icelards and Aerials, the first true test came on finding
a Frost Ox, the bad tempered beast charged into her, the furs and hides took much of the
force but left plenty of bruises in its wake, fighting in the cumbersome gear made her
curse more than a little but slowly she got used to it, glad of the straps added to the
various weapons.
Finaly finishing off the Ox she was disappointed in failing to catch its spirit and had
to settle for cutting some meat for later, it turned out there were a surprising number
of Frost Oxes wandering about the area, none yielded its spirit to her, she was heading
for wooded area when a Snow Hyena came across her path, it bounded over the snow towards
her, all teeth and laughter, her machette bit deep causing it jump back with a yelp, it
circled round before lunging in, it was rewarded with another wound for its trouble, it
leapt at her instead of away trying to knock her down, it scored a quick grazing blow,
its sharp teeth cutting though the armour and slicing the skin, she sliced it right back
cutting tendons in its back, its mobility curtailed she made short work of the creature.
Kyri felt the spirit flow to her, join with the chorus of all the other spirits within
her and for brief moment she was lost listening as it rose and fell, the moment passed
looking around to get her bearings and check for any threats before continuing toward
the woods, once inside she soon found a sutable campsite and set about gathering wood,
with a fire going and meat roasting she settled down to rest.
