With mob fights geared towards people who don't have alot of time, a way to keep the more active people engaged in this game could be to have a feature that allows the character to slowly search their tile for various interesting things. Like neat rock formations and stones in the mountain tiles, strange fungi, moss, mold in the forest tiles. New evolutionary traits in insects on various tiles, Rare species of grass and plants with no known use, fishing next to river and ocean tiles?! Yes, please!
The idea of this feature is literally to pass the time while accomplishing SOMEthing. Not a way to get rich for the people with lots of time. I was originally thinking searching the surroundings like this would take you to the fight page, where you could see every 15 seconds as a round go by to see if you found anything, like a treasure hunt. This may put unnecessary strain on the server with 3x as many people sitting in fight page all the time. So another way is to have a button on main page to 'Carefully Search' and something will pop up as if you explored "You found 1 Plant Species X!' or 'You have found nothing... yet.' with a cooldown on the button for 5-10 mins between uses.
To go along with the rest of the game, these collection items you find would actually be an item and not soulbound to the character. Raids could be slightly more profitable, even if you just hit noob areas, which isn't really a good thing. Ideally we want the raiders to stay way from known noobie areas (sub-200 using suede armor) for the noobs sake. I know some noobs are training in hawks and higher using good gear, not talking about those. I wouldn't mind at all if the developers break away from actual items like everything else is and just make a number in a list:
Forest Collection
3 Strange Insect
2 Water Vines
1 Yellow Moss
If this is the case then maybe cap each one at 10 or so until you turn it in.
If collecting/prestige is not good enough then perhaps we can turn them into a capital city or wilderness NPCs and receive a small amount of gold coins (100g) for a complete collection. If the quantity per item is not capped then you'll start to run into having 10 of an item but 0 of others so at that point you could turn 10 of the same item in but only for half the reward (50g). If we are going to get gold coins out of this, then maybe have each 'Search' cost half the moves your tribe uses on that tile. Mythos takes 22 movement points on wasteland, make it 11 slowly walk around, avoiding more difficult steps/areas in the tile in preference to the easier paths kind of thing. This would not be tied to fertility of the tile as the 5-10 min cooldown itself would allow for 'regeneration'.
Fishing! That could be a complicated feature in itself and I'll leave it to a coder to think of a decent way to do that, or just keep it simple like above. Lastly, a leaderboard for total sets turned in with option of hiding yourself, like the monster kills.
