Annual Agonia Arena Tournament!It's finally here! The Annual Agonia Arena Tournament will be taking place in the coming weeks (final weapons/shield AP/DP balance will be finalized before). The Rules- You are allowed to use any gear you want, you will not lose any gear or skill if you get killed in the arena
- The tournament will be a swiss style tournament
- Everyone will fight 6 or 7 rounds (tbd based on the total number of participants)
- Each round will last 15minutes
- Once you know your opponent, you meet and fight. To win, you need to have +2 wins over your opponent, so either 2-0, 3-1, 4-2, 5-3 etc...
- Once you have won or lost, you must report your result in the discord channel (be specific about the score as it is important for tiebreakers)
- There will be rewards based on your final rank.
Swiss-style tournamentA swiss-style tournament works very differently compared to a classic knock-off tournament. A script will generate the first pairings for round 1 randomly. For round 2, winners will be matched with winners and losers with losers. For round 3, winners of both rounds 1-2 will face each other, losers of both rounds will face each other, and those who won 1/2 will face each other. And so on for 6-7 rounds. There are many benefits:
- Everyone will have the same number of fights (in a knockoff it's not fun if you lose the 1st duel)
- You can win the tournament even if you lose a duel (no loss is eliminatory)
- After two rounds, you end up facing opponents of similar strength, making the fights much more interesting for everyone
- In the end we get an actual ranking from 1st to last
One downside:
- We don't know the pairings of the next round in advance, and ALL fights of round N must be finished for the system to process and generate the pairings of round N+1
Organization
- 1 hour before the tournament, we will change the teleporting coordinates so that everyone goes to the same arena
- We expect the total duration to be about 2h30-3h00.
- We'll need people to pay attention and be reactive so we don't go overtime, hence the 15min per round rule.
- When the time is up, if you do not have a result, then either one of the two who is responsible forfeits, OR a jury will decide, and if there is no criteria for choice, then a coin will be flipped, but we cannot have all participants wait for two people (only exception is if a duel is extremely tight and goes on to 5-3 or 6-4).
- EXCEPTIONALLY, and to give everyone a high chance of participation, you are EXCEPTIONALLY allowed to designate ONE other player who will be available to play your character if you have to go AFK. We will have a buddy system on a list that is public so everyone can see it.
- after the tournament is over, you will have two NPCs which teleport you back to either New Heaven or Exodus. You MUST go back to the same cap you came from. We don't want to spend 4 hours coding something just to avoid someone playing it stupid, so please we trust you, and anyone breaking this rule will be severely punished.
- There will be a raid ban 24h before and 24h after the tournament.

(Note: it is a survey, not a presidential election, meaning we will not necessarily pick the option with most votes, as a lot of other factors must be taken into account)

Rookie vs Normal League
One very important thing I forgot!
We will have two leagues:
-Normal League: accessible to everyone
-Rookie League: only for characters created in 2020
A rookie can also decide to play in the normal league if he/she prefers. Even in both.

Misc. Information/RulesWe will have discord channels dedicated to the tournaments to try to help things run smoothly, and it is largely mandatory to organize it at all, so you will need to be here to participate: Agonia DiscordBuff potions are allowed beforehand (Stew, Ale, Wine, (Large) Resistance Potion, (Large) Potion of Luwill, etc.) so gather them along with your gear. Using -ANY- item during the fight is not allowed, even buff potions listed above. This will cause you to lose the current fight. Fleeing is not allowed. This will cause you to lose the current fight. Trading items back and forth during the tournament is not allowed, we aren't going to wait around for that. Have your items ready beforehand and don't count on sharing. Login BuddiesYour login buddy will need to know your account name and password to access your account in case you aren't able to. For your own safety, please consider a temporary password for the duration, and change it after the tournament is over. A reminder that this is a one-time special exception for the event, and does not extend before and after in any way, and is only meant to be used for the purpose of the tournament itself. Login buddies need to be declared specifically to me, and will be publicly listed closer to the tournament, and to change/add/whatever your buddy, contact me. If you are a login buddy, you are expected to fight with that character at full strength, in all circumstances. Raid BanThere will be a Raid Ban on the calendar days of October 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th, CET / Server / Paris time, and will be clearly announced on the in-game banner and on discord. This gives a day before and after to prepare and travel for the tournament without worry. For anyone who doesn't know the raid ban rules, the Order and Forsaken factions have agreed upon the 180,xxx vertical dividing line to be the border. Order players must stay on the west, and Forsaken players must stay on the east, everything else is admin judgment. RewardsNormal League-1 Ancient Relic for everyone who participates and doesn't forfeit any fight -XP in leadership from 500XP up to 5,000XP based on rank -Gold from 500 up to 5,000 based on rank Rookie League-1 Gift for everyone who participates and doesn't forfeit any fight -XP in leadership from 250XP up to 2,500XP based on rank -Gold from 250 up to 2,500 based on rank

For those who want to know a bit more how Swiss system works exactly, i'm reposting Nishi's explanation:
Pairings round 1 get posted
All fights happen, but to progress to the next round, all fights must be over
Then, the system looks at who won, and pairs people who won against each other, and those who lost against each other
Once round 2 is over, the System pairs people 2w vs 2w, 1w1L vs 1w1L , 2L vs 2L and so forth
there is another hidden system called opponent score
Doesn’t matter, if you lose round 1 and then win all other rounds
Especially if the person you lost against only wins after that fight
Opponent score also looks at the end, against who you won and who you lost against.
Winning against people who only lost is bad, losing against someone who only won against you is bad
Naturally, the one with the most wins is placed on the top
But if you have same win/lose ratio, op score will decide your placement

The gold will be deposited straight into the safety of your bank account. Relics and Gifts will be in your inventory. Leadership XP will be instant.
