Thanks to Ambila, Cypher, Elwing and Stratosphere for reviewing and adding character input!
The Inn was quiet now that harvest was fully underway, Stratosphere and Kyri sat enjoying a drink in
that blissful morning quiet.
"ya know, that bloody watch tower, Its leaning worse than before", Stratosphere said staring at his
ale as if it was to blame for the leaning tower, which it could have been if they had not put the `No
drinking before building`rule in place.
"I`d like to tell you its in your head but I`ve been measuring the lean the last few weeks and it is
tilting more, lucky its away from the inn and the workshops" she replied cheerfully.
"Damn it, we`ll have to rebuild it", in a tone that stated he didn`t want to at all.
Kyri drained her glass, "Well no use talking about it, I`ll climb up and start taking it apart and
lower anything salvagable down to you"
"it'll take a few days of hard graft, you know", Strat pushed his glass away and stood, "mmm, okay.
I`ll go get the tools then"
Armed with an asortment of tools, Kyri started prying up planks and knocking apart the stone work
lowering some items down with on a rope and throwing other bits over the side where Stratosphere
dragged and threw everything into piles nearby.
A young Lightfoot walked by and entered the Inn, coming out a few minutes later, "Hello", she gave a
wave, "The Barkeep said I should speak to one you, I came to see Cypher, He said he would meet me here,
at the Inn I mean".
Stratosphere looked up, "shorter than average, dwarr lad, likes sticking his nose in old mines, an
playing with stones" he asked.
"Yes thats right", the young lass said hopefully.
"No never heard of him", Stratosphere smiled, Kyri aimed a small bit of rock at him.
"Dont mind him, yes Cypher will turn up soon, I`m Kyri, this grumpy sod is Stratosphere" she called
down, "I would offer you a drink but we are a bit busy".
"Thanks, I`m Elwing", she put her small amount of gear down, "Would you like some help while I wait, I
can at least earn that drink?"
Stratosphere looked at her and grinned, "Sure, more the merrier", he quickly showed her his system of
piles, Elwing picked up a stone and looked at the various heaps, ordered by material and size and
threw it on the one it best matched, after a couple of hours they called a stop for rest, food and
drink were brought out and they sat at one of the benches.
"This is a nice place, good views", Elwing said looking out southwards.
"Yes we thought so", Kyri looked a little proud of their rough home.
"Yeah , at least until its overwelmed by Skeletons or Dragons or the watchtower falls over", said
Stratosphere in between mouthfuls.
"Well its not like you had anything else planned", Kyri replied, "The Skeletons could have been pure
bad luck and if the Skeleton King decides to come back here at least he has good taste".
"Hey there, whats going on ?", Ambila called out, He and Cypher walked in from the northern trail,
dropping their heavy loads and sitting at the bench, eyeing the food and drink hungrily.
"Elwing is here to see you Cypher, I`ll go grab a couple of glasses and some more drink, theres food
aplenty pitch in before your eyes fall out", Kyri left and returned with glasses and a jug of ale,
Stratosphere had told Ambila and Cypher of the watchtower rebuilding.
"What did I miss?", Kyri asked as she returned and filled their glasses from the jug.
"Well we welcome Elwing to our little group, and Cypher and I will be pitching in on the tower as well
until dark.", Ambila stated, nodding to Kyri as a silent gratefull gesture for the drink, "Once we
store what we brought back anyway." He gave a slight smirk. "If I can judge from the pain in my back,
we got quite lucky."
"Welcome Elwing, we already know you are a hard worker", Kyri shook the lightfoots hand, the food was
soon eaten and after things were stored and Elwing given her own room, they started on demolishing the
tower with the same enthusiasm as they had demolished the food, by late afternoon only about four feet
of stonework remained standing.
"Have a look at this" Cypher called out, tired and dirty they crowded round to see what he had found,
under the foundation on the east side what looked like solid mountain rock had cracked , they started
clearing the walls and ground and discovered what had seemed like a solid rock was a flat slab which
had cracked under the weight of the tower.
"sod it, is to late to be doing anymore today", Stratosphere said they all agreed, "an we're bloody no
disturbing that stone at night. Ya mad dawrr", dragging a disapointed Cypher away from the cracked slab
they cleaned and packed away their tools all wondering what tomorrow would bring.
" if its no skellies, is bloody dragons. Now we have a dwarrs wet dream under the bloody inn" mumbled
Stratosphere as they walked off.
