The door of the Inn swung slowly open and a robed figure stepped over the threshhold,
standing just inside the tall figure thumped his staff onto the flagstones to gain
attention.
"Where is the sorceress!" he rasped.
Stratosphere turned, "Who are you?"
"I.. am an Emissary of the Ancients" the figure stated.
Stratosphere rubbed his chin thoughtfully, "Emissary of the Ancients?, fancy title that,
this here is Bob the Farmer and thats..."
"Where is the Sorceress?" the Emissary repeated coldly.
Stratosphere turned back to his drink and asked the barkeep, "Do you know the sorceress"
The barkeep raised an eyebrow "none of my business to know anyone who ain`t buying"
"Enough, the sorceress known as Kyri is well known to reside here, where is she?", the
Emissaries voice raised an octave as he fought to control his frustration.
Stratosphere turned slowly to look at the man again, "Why didn`t you just say so, out
the back I think in one of the workshops".
"Thankyou" the robed figure turned and left, after a few moments the barkeep said "Don`t
you think you should go keep an eye on him?".
Stratosphere looked at his glass, "I got time to finish my pint, theres no harm can come
in that time"....
Meanwhile...
Kyri was in the hall of Wonders the only space big and empty enough for her needs, to
anyone outside she stood in the middle of the room in a trance, she was infact silently
communing with the spirits she had caught having expanded her conciousness to fill the
space around her, selecting four she mentaly pulled them to the fore.
"STOP!" the Emissary commanded, Kyri switched her focus back from the spirit realm, her
conciousness condensing back into herself, she still held the four spirits at the front
of her mind.
"Who are you?", she asked iritated at being interupted in her studies.
"An Emissary of the Ancients, they sent me to find you, to disuade you from continuing
in your current line of ...investigation"
"Emissary? never heard of that, seen a few accolytes before" she tried to make out some
details of of the figure before her, tall, thin, hidden in a robe and holding a staff,
not much of any help.
"Accolytes are sent on minor errands and to pass messages...they ask..., I am sent to...
Tell, and I am telling you to stop what you are doing"
"Why?" her chin jutted out petulently.
"It has been deemed dangerous and that at this time it is not prudent to allow it to..."
"Who says so?" she interupted.
"The Ancients!" the Emissary stated trying to end the argument.
"Which ones?" she asked.
The Emissary paused, "What?".
"Which Ancients?... the Forsaken or the Order?", she stared coldly at the tall figure,
she realy couldnt tell his tribe, which was true of most of the Ancient ones but this
one was different, much taller.
"It is of no importance to you, Obedience is Important", he was starting to sound annoyed
she smiled.
"Finding out who I am or at least who I am now is important to me, the Ancients seem so
reluctant to share, this study is all I can do to find out", she hadnt seen him move but
somehow he seemed closer.
"You will stop" he stated.
"I don`t think I will" she replied.
She didn`t see how it happened just that he now had a sword in his hand, the staff fell
away, the sword tip was fast aproaching her heart, unarmed she desperately tried to clap
her hands on the sword and unconciously sent the four spirits on a useless charge at the
Emissary, a psychic shield.
Spirits, hands and sword all met at the same time, for a moment she could feel the metal
slide toward her, then her world exploded.
Kyri was blown backwards, she watched as the metal blade melted before she smashed into
the back wall, the emissary was a ball of red surrounded by blue flame, he didnt move
standing frozen as the red faded replaced by a dark siloette in the blue flame and then
it was gone leaving a charred statue.
She stood unsteadily, most of the roof had gone, sunlight streamed in, there was blood
on her hands, there was no power left in her for a healing spell, the sound of running
brought her alert, Stratosphere stood outlined in what was left of the doorway axe in
hand.
"What the f**k happened to the Hall?", he stared around the devastated mess.
"We`ll need a new one", she said as the remaining part of the roof fell in.
"And the Emissary?" he poked the blackened figure with his axe, it collapsed into a pile
of soot.
"They`ll need a new one", she picked her way over the rubble to the door.
"You need new clothes, a bath and a drink, then I say we go slaughter those bastards"
Stratosphere looked fierce.
She looked at was left of her cotton tunic, "Bath, clothes and drink, not the slaughter"
"Eh? Why the hell not?" he asked.
"We don`t which side he came from" she answered with a grin, "Or even for that matter if
he came from either"
"Aye, you could be right, how about we go ask the Ancients with a bit of wounding thrown
in?"
"Yeah that seems appropriate" she wiped her bloody hands on her rags.
Stratospere cast a healing spell, "Then we will set off tomorrow" he grinned.
