We will soon be launching round 2 of Nyx, the Dream War, and while most things will remain similar, we are making some balance changes after watching Nyx round 1. We want to answer the common questions we got in discord and private messages that would allow players to make better decisions on their choice of tribe and faction.
Feel free to ask more questions and we will answer when we can.
Will the Map and Factions be the same?
Yes, we could not have a new map ready by January (and likely February) so we decided to make a few changes and repeat Nyx 1 on January 1st, so we don't delay it too long or miss it entirely.
We're happy with the factions, and those will be the same. Skeletons are getting a slight buff, but they are mostly affected positively by the changes to the economy such as the increased rarity of runes.
What Skeleton Buff?
Skeleton physical resistance is raised from 25% to 33%. This is roughly +5 protection against a 60 damage hit, which is not uncommon in PVE and PVP. It will make the beginning a little easier while training a weapon from 10 skill, alongside the more common heals and gold in the earlier treasure boxes, and greatly benefit you in high level training areas and PVP, with runes being quite a bit rarer now.
Runes are, by my estimates, 5 times rarer now, and the rune slot count in weapons was decreased.
Skeleton Sight Changes?
Skeleton sight is still -2 base. Skeletons are supposed to be a very purpose built tribe, with a lot of roleplay baked into its gameplay, and it has a lot of positives and negatives from that, offset by their symbiotic relationship with the Kiith, which means faction play is very important. In that vein, if a buff in this area were needed, we don't want to buff Skeleton's sight, we'd rather buff the Kiith sight spell or something along those lines.
Will there be no Lightfoot, like last round?
Sadly, Lightfoot are still not playable this round.
Will each faction be in the same starting capital locations?
Yes, we're happy with where the factions and their tribes are when it comes to trying to roughly fit them into a 20 year old map, though some fauna locations have moved slightly.
Same Fauna Monsters?
Mostly, this is somewhat tied to the map, though as with all events we want to spice up a thing or two even if it's 95% the same.
What are the Intel Changes?
Intelligence Potions and their ingredients have been made more available, obtainable outside of exploring for them in wastes and deserts, which should help the lower Intelligence tribes out as long as they are supported. This should also help balance out the terrain differences between factions that comes from cramming this all into the old map.
Intelligence potions are still +7 INT for 24 hours.
Also, the change to Leadership that occurred a while ago in Agonia is present in Nyx too. Leadership XP needed to skill up is no longer based on your character's intelligence value, or any buffs. This means that all characters will gain even skill and evolution from leadership, which mostly comes from PVP kills.
Has the view ranges been changed from Season 1?
Watch towers are not as highly upgradable in towns, only getting +2 sight instead of +4, and getting the +2 is more expensive than before as well.
We'll see how it plays out but we wanted to start smaller instead of disabling them entirely, which is at least on the table. Group towns are the most boring and cheapest sight mechanic, and the hardest to punish or counter, so we want to focus on that instead of penalizing the unique gear bonuses or terrain bonuses, the things you can lose upon death or pay movement to achieve.
