I woke to the unfamiliar. The unfamiliar sound of water lapping, the unfamiliar smell of salted fish, and the unfamiliar heave of the ocean. I woke aboard a vessel creaking and groaning under the strain of its own weight. There were others too. Some that bear a similar resemblance, and others that do not. I recognize them by way of intuition or instinct but not through any tangible memory. My memory is all haze, my mind filled by a heavy mist, a blinding fog, a smothering smoke. I cannot remember anything. How we got here and why, I do not know. We discovered a rudimentary stash of weapons and armour in the boatswain’s locker. Adequate for fending off the cockroaches, boat rats, and sea crabs that infested the ship. They were less effective against a giant squid that tried to devour the entire sailboat, but they got the job done. The Ancients steered the boat true of course until we sighted land and not a moment too soon. After many days of confinement floating atop the blue fluid desert passions were running high. Agonia Definition: Noun - An acute but unspecific feeling of anxiety; usually related to emulation, competition, and/or struggle.
